Fun hole-in-one facts and trivia

One of the hardest and often seen as luck-based feat one can accomplish in golf is making a hole in one.  It often comes with a huge, heaps-of-money prize when done and properly documented.  For both amateur and professional players, getting a hole in one is the ultimate dream.  Let’s look at some fun and interesting facts and trivia related to this great feat.

One of the most famous first holes in one was accomplished by—you guessed it—Tiger Woods, when he was just six years of age.  Among female players, the most impressive is that of Michelle Wie, who has so far already had six holes in one in her career, beginning with an ace when she was 12 years old.

Distance-wise, the longest hole in one was made by Robert Mitera in 1965 at the Miracle Hills Golf Club in Omaha.  It was highly improbable and nothing short of a miracle, as he made the shot from 444 yards away.  This means he couldn’t even see the flag on the green from where the tee was.

The person who has had the most holes in ones is Norman Manley from California, who has accomplished this elusive feat 59 times beginning in 1964.  In 1979 alone, he managed to make four of them.

The oldest player to have scored an ace is Harold Stilson, who was 101 years old when he did so in 2001 with a four-iron at from a distance of 108 yards at the Deerfield Country Club in Florida.  On the other hand, the youngest to do so was Jake Paine, a three-year-old boy still in his diapers, who made the shot from a 65-yard hole in California.

My name is Robert Mims, a student from California now based in Memphis while I finish my studies. I’m a huge fan of golf, and I’m starting a new golf blog which I’m calling CPA or Come Play After. For more of my thoughts and musings about the game, click this link.
