The “Fedal” rivalry has since become an unfamiliar sight for tennis fans, considering that the two are advanced in age compared to the rising stars in the circuit. In recent years, the circuit has seen the young guns dominate podiums. Rafa and Roger’s wins the past year proved to have been the plot twists every tennis fan was waiting for.
Serena Williams took a break from the women’s circuit due to her pregnancy. The top tennis female tennis player is set to make her comeback this year. Maria Sharapova started playing in a grand slam again after she had been banned for doping. This matter is received differently by fans, but the tennis world is surely glad she’s back.
The beginning of 2018 was a shocker for many reasons. Rafa withdrew in the quarterfinals of Australian Open, losing to Marin Cilic, and Novak Djokovic lost to Korea’s rising star, Hyeon Chung, in the same grand slam’s fourth round. With Novak and Rafa out of the draw, Federer won the grand slam in a breeze. Rafa and Novak have been out for injury treatments while Federer is on tour with the rest of the circuit. The previous year proved to be a good surprise for fans. Will there be more surprises in the following months?
