How To Be Fit Enough For Golf

A lot of people take one look at golf and they wonder how much effort goes into it. Or even worse, they wonder if it’s a sport. It’s not like basketball or football. Golfers don’t sweat. Jumping higher or running faster doesn’t mean a thing. But don’t let all of that (or lack of it) fool you. Golf is physical and golfers need to be in tip-top shape relative to the game. They need quite a bit of power and precision to hit those balls using those clubs.

Sometimes it’s not all about power and speed. With golf, flexibility trumps these two qualities. A good golfer should at the very least, be able to perform a toe touch with his legs shoulder-width apart. Another part of the body a good golfer needs to emphasize on is the pelvic region. Good golfers can tilt their pelvises forward and backward with little strain.

The upper body is an important part for the golfer. For example, one of the golfer’s tests is with his shoulders. He lies on the ground with his arms at a ninety-degree angle with his body. He has a thumbs-down gesture. If both his thumbs are touching the floor without him feeling any discomfort in his shoulders, that’s a good sign.

There are several more tests, but the point is, golf can be very more physical than reports lead on.
