Should Old People Play Sports?

While we all know how good golf is for everyone, including and especially the elderly, the question remains -- is sports actually good for them? Or is getting into rigorous physical activity disaster waiting to happen.

First things first. Safety should be the primary consideration for everybody, regardless of age, in all sports. That said, if the elderly are looking to engage in sports, safety should always come first. They should consult a physician before taking up any physical activity. They should also wear the proper equipment such as knee and arm braces. If cleared by their doctor and with ample preparation, we see no reason the elderly shouldn’t exercise. However, these routines should be modified to suit their age and the capabilities of their bodies.

There are a lot of physical benefits to be had, so yes, getting into sports is a good idea for seniors. It keeps their hearts in top shape and some sports, such as swimming and cycling, can actually alleviate joint pain. Golf maintains proper posture, which is essential in old age.

But as people get older, the things they can become limited. They should be aware of what their bodies can and cannot do. If this requirement is met, then playing sports shouldn’t be a problem at all.
